It is a well know fact that Kola Peninsula is rich with minerals. Deployment of the resources commenced in 1920s: geological prospectors actively surveyed the area and found impressive deposits there. Exploration and surveying of iron ore deposits lead to establishment of Olenegorsk Ore Processing Plant (AO Olkon). Today Olkon is a part of the PAO Severstal’s Mining Division, which develops the deposits of the Zaimandrovskiy Iron Ore Area. The ore processing plant produces high-quality iron ore concentrate with the iron content upward of 68%.
In May our company has concluded commissioning works on Tsentralnaya Station of Olenegorsk Ore Processing Plant for MPC-I Computer-based interlocking system featuring SOK Object controller system and ESSO-M-2 Axle counting system. In total MPC-I controls 37 points and 67 light signals. It is worth mentioning that UKC Main interlocking controllers also ensure operation of nine level-crossings, some of which are fitted with PASh-1 road barriers. During modernization efforts, an outdated control panel was replaced with a new ARM DSP Station Master Terminal.
Tsentralnaya Station is a gateway to the network of OAO RZD – Olenegorsk Station of October Railway. Tsentralnaya Station has a great length of 6 kilometers, as it features a reversing triangle used to turn locomotives or the whole train.
Kola Peninsula is an incredibly scenic place of Murmansk Region. Its landscape impresses with its variety. Kola Peninsula has everything: the Arctic tundra, ancient mountains, marine fiords and taiga. The Kola River, flowing through the peninsula, was a cradle of the first Russian settlement in the Arctic and gave name to the namesake town and the whole peninsula. The name of the river traces back to Saama language, translating as the “golden river”.
